Mr Tiago Fernandes

ENAS Secretary General

Sport Officer
Nova University of Lisbon
Portugal

  • As far as I can remember, I've always been a sports fan.

I practiced several sports and ended up being a semi-professional futsal player for more than

10 years. Since I retired from futsal I try to keep fit and healthy by going to the gym, cycling

and playing occasional football and padel with friends.

I started my academic education in IT Engineering but ended up changing to the Sports field,

which made me much happier. I graduated in Sports Coaching and worked in different areas as

a football coach, strength and conditioning coach, event planner and sports manager. Since

2015, I have been working at the Sports Service of NOVA University of Lisbon, trying my best to

make the world a healthier and happier place.

In my free time, I like to travel, read and watch old movies

Mr Henri Ten Klooster

ENAS Treasurer

Head of Sport
Wageningen University and Research
The Netherlands

  • I live in Wageningen, a small but very international town in the Netherlands with a well-known university and research centre: WUR. In daily life I’m manager of Sports Centre de Bongerd of WUR, a fast growing sports centre with indoor and outdoor facilities. Our university has been grown from 4500 students in 2007 to 13000 in 2019. With a participation of 56% of our students you can imagine the challenges that we are facing at this moment.

I’m married and father of two daughters; all are involved in health care (medicine and nursing). My life is about sports; through my work at the sports centre I try to involve as many students and staff as possible in the sports, activity and health programme. For myself I try to ‘practice what I preach’ by doing sports at least five times a week and if time is not the limiting factor I bike – as a real Dutchmen - every distance less than 20 km and besides I always take the stairs. My passion is cycling (especially in the mountains like Mt Ventoux and Passeo di Stelvio), running and skating. When I was younger I used to play soccer and I did a lot of gymnastics. I’m still waiting for a real winter in which it is possible to skate the famous Dutch Elfstedentocht (Eleven City tour; 220 km). I was a soccer head coach for 23 years, but now I only watch a lot of soccer (AFC Ajax is my club). Besides I watch athletics, cycle racing and skating.

In my spare time I like reading, theatre and music; I try to go to live music concerts as many as possible.

My first ENAS conference was in 2003 in Groningen, The Netherlands and from 2005 on, I attended every conference; I felt part of the ENAS family. I was elected as treasurer in 2015 and enjoyed working with colleagues from all over Europe to enhance student sport and our network in the best possible way. Hope to meet you at our next event.
