What is the European Week of Sport (EWoS)?
It is an annual initiative organised by the European Commission to promote sport and physical activity for everyone in Europe. The campaign aims to encourage a more active and healthier lifestyle by mobilising organisations and individuals across Europe to organise activities or raise awareness of the importance of being active.
The European Week of Sport 2026 is officially from 23 until 30 September, but the idea is to promote activities associated to the EWoS during the entire month of September.
Why ENAS Members should promote it?
ENAS has always been strongly committed to the European Week of Sport, bringing together universities and academic sports services across Europe and providing direct access to a large, active student population.
ENAS members work directly to improve sports and active lifestyle opportunities for students and staff, while also contributing to broader European priorities relating to health, education, and participation in sports. This puts ENAS members in a strong position to support the EWoS's goal of encouraging people, particularly young adults, to lead more active lifestyles and participate in sport.
How to promote it?
This can be achieved by organising campus activities, promoting local events, supporting student-led initiatives, and encouraging the integration of sport and physical activity into everyday campus life. Activities taking place in September can be promoted as part of the European Week of Sport; the core period is 23–30 September.
You can also contribute by sharing your activities on social media and/or raising awareness of the importance of participating in sport and physical activity. You can also:
- promote #BeActive and the European Week of Sport through your communication channels, such as social media and your website.
- mobilise your networks, members, students, university staff and the wider community to raise awareness of the campaign.
- align existing activities with the EWoS initiative.
Our goal is to contribute in a practical and visible way by increasing participation and spreading the #BeActive message across the higher education sector.
